Step-by-step client instructions for setting up your CIX Connect business email on mobile devices, iPhone/iPad, Android and Outlook/PC. Use this guide when activating a new mailbox, moving to a new phone, or adding your business email to a computer.

Before You Start

Prepare these details first
Important: Always use the exact mailbox details supplied by CIX Connect. Your email address, password and server name must be typed correctly. We recommend IMAP because it keeps your mailbox synced across phone, tablet, laptop and webmail.
Requirement 01
Your Full Email Address

Example: name@yourdomain.co.za. Use the full address as both your email address and username.

Requirement 02
Your Email Password

Use the password supplied during mailbox creation. Passwords are case-sensitive, so capital letters and symbols matter.

Requirement 03
Your Mail Server

Most CIX hosted emails use mail.yourdomain.co.za. Replace yourdomain.co.za with your actual domain name.

How to add your business email on iPhone or iPad

Use these steps when adding your CIX Connect hosted mailbox to the default Mail app on iPhone or iPad.

Open SettingsGo to your iPhone or iPad Settings and open Mail.
Open AccountsTap Accounts, then select Add Account.
Choose OtherSelect Other, then tap Add Mail Account.
Enter account detailsEnter your name, full email address, email password, and description such as “Business Email”. Tap Next.
Select IMAPChoose IMAP as the account type so your emails sync across devices.
Enter server detailsFor incoming and outgoing mail server, enter the mail server supplied by CIX Connect. Use your full email address as username and enter the same password.
Save the accountAfter verification, keep Mail enabled and tap Save. Your mailbox will appear in the Mail app.

How to add your business email on Android

Android screens differ by brand, but the flow is usually the same: open Email/Gmail, add account, choose manual setup, then enter IMAP and SMTP settings.

Open your mail appSelect the Mail, Email, or Gmail app from your home screen.
Add your email addressEnter your full business email address and password.
Select Manual SetupChoose Manual Setup when prompted, then select IMAP Account.
Enter incoming server settingsUse your full email as username. Enter the incoming mail server supplied by CIX Connect.
Enter outgoing server settingsEnter the outgoing SMTP server. Make sure “Require sign-in” or SMTP authentication is enabled.
Configure account optionsSelect sync frequency, notifications, and other account preferences.
Complete setupEnter your display name, tap Done, and allow the phone to sync your mailbox.

Outlook / PC Email Setup

Automatic add account method

Use this method first. Outlook may detect the mailbox settings automatically.

Open OutlookOpen Microsoft Outlook and click File.
Add accountClick Add Account.
Enter email addressType your full business email address and click Connect.
Enter passwordEnter your mailbox password and continue.
FinishWhen Outlook confirms the account was added, click Done or Finish.
Manual Outlook Setup
POP / IMAP account settings

Use this method when Outlook asks for manual server details.

Open File then Add AccountChoose manual setup or additional server types.
Choose POP or IMAPSelect POP or IMAP, then click Next.
Enter user informationEnter your name and full email address.
Enter server informationUse your incoming and outgoing mail server details. For IMAP, use mail.yourdomain.co.za.
Enter login informationUsername must be your full email address. Enter your password.
Open More SettingsGo to Outgoing Server and tick “My outgoing server requires authentication”.
Set advanced portsUse SSL/TLS secure ports. Common secure settings are IMAP 993 and SMTP 465.
Test and finishClick Next, allow Outlook to test the account settings, then click Close and Finish.

Troubleshooting Checklist

Common setup issues and fixes
Problem
Password Rejected

Check that the password is typed exactly as supplied. Passwords are case-sensitive. Do not add extra spaces before or after the password.

Problem
Cannot Send Emails

Check outgoing SMTP settings. The outgoing server must require authentication and should use the full email address as username.

Problem
Cannot Receive Emails

Check incoming server, port and security type. Confirm that your internet connection is active and that the mailbox is not full.

Problem
Certificate Warning

Make sure the server name is typed correctly. If your device shows a warning, contact CIX Connect before accepting unknown settings.

Problem
Duplicate Emails

Use IMAP on multiple devices. Avoid mixing POP3 and IMAP unless CIX support specifically recommends it for your setup.
