Recommended IMAP Settings

Best for multiple devices
Recommended: Use IMAP when the same email is used on more than one device. IMAP keeps messages synced between phone, PC, tablet and webmail.
IMAP Setting Secure Value Purpose
Account Type IMAP Keeps email synced on all devices.
Incoming Server mail.yourdomain.co.za Receives email from your mailbox.
Incoming Port 993 Secure IMAP port.
Incoming Security SSL/TLS Encrypts mailbox connection.
Username Full email address Example: info@yourdomain.co.za.

Outgoing SMTP Settings

Required for sending email
SMTP Setting Secure Value Purpose
Outgoing Server mail.yourdomain.co.za Sends email from your mailbox.
Outgoing Port 465 Secure SMTP port.
Outgoing Security SSL/TLS Encrypts sending connection.
Alternative Port 587 STARTTLS Use only if 465 is rejected by your app or network.
Authentication Required Outgoing server must sign in using the same email and password.
Common mistake: many “can receive but cannot send” problems happen because SMTP authentication is off. Enable “My outgoing server requires authentication” or “Require sign-in”.

POP3 Alternative Settings

Only use when required
Use POP3 carefully: POP3 can download emails to one device and may remove them from the server depending on settings. For modern business use, IMAP is usually safer.
POP3 Setting Secure Value Warning
Account Type POP3 Only use if CIX support recommends it.
Incoming Server mail.yourdomain.co.za Downloads email to the device.
Incoming Port 995 Secure POP3 port.
Security SSL/TLS Must be enabled for secure use.
Leave Copy on Server Recommended Prevents email disappearing from other devices.

Which Setting Should I Choose?

Simple decision guide
Best Choice
Use IMAP

Choose IMAP if you use your email on mobile and PC. This is the cleanest setup for most clients.

Sending Mail
Use SMTP

SMTP is not optional. It is required for sending emails from your mailbox.

Old Method
Avoid POP3

Use POP3 only if you understand the risk or if CIX support instructs you to use it.
